New Year Good Luck Superstitions

New Years Eve Superstitions
A new year is a symbolic rebirth. On New Year's Eve we say good bye to the old and usher in the new year with the hope that it will be better than the previous year.

To better the chances of having a great new year, people have created many superstitions over the years.

Since we all can use a little luck it might not hurt to try some of the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day rituals listed below to help out bring in the new year while celebrating at a Detroit New Years Eve party.

Be Mindful of How You Start the Year

Many people like to have clean homes on the first of the year. They believe if their house is dirty on that day then it will be for the entire year. Whether you're talking domestic duties or anything else, the belief is how you begin the year will be the blueprint for how the rest of the year goes. For that reason, you should also make sure you have some money in your pocket, make sure you're looking your best and anything else you hope will be true for the rest of the year.

Eat for Good Luck

There are a variety of foods that people eat on New Years Eve Detroit that is thought to bring good luck for the rest of the year. One of the most popular good luck foods that people eat on the first day of the year is black eyed peas. Black eyed peas are said to give a person good fortune in all their endeavors.

Lots of people eat greens on New Year's day in hopes of drawing good luck to themselves. Eating greens, according to legend, will bring you luck in the money department because eating greens will naturally put some in your pocket of course. It doesn't matter what kind of greens you eat either; kale, cabbage, collards, mustard, spinach and every other variety is said to work just as well.

Loud Noise

Every year you see people blowing into noise makers. Most people never think about why it is that we blow into those little horns once the clock strikes midnight. It is believed that making a lot of noise drives away evil spirits that might do us harm. Even some churches participate in this superstition by ringing their bells at midnight each New Year.

Doors Wide Open

New Year's Eve is center around bringing in the new and letting go of the old and all the bad that came with it. Lots of people believe in opening the doors of their home when the clock hits midnight to help push out the old year. If you live in one of the colder parts of the country this may also mean letting in a bit of cold air but I definitely think making sure you have a good year is worth it.
